Regular(rooted) G1 to Android Dev Phone 1
This didn't take much time, thanks to some smart hackers, you can now convert your regular jailbroken G1 to Dev Phone 1.
The guys have extracted the unlocked bootloader from dev phone and flashed onto the regular G1 disabling the security checks at boot time. No security checks = loads of mods , plus you won't have to pay $425 for freedom.
For those locked out of root, this one is not for you, not yet, but for those who possess the root power, full instructions are here.

Does it etch the cool design on the back of my battery cover, too?!?! :-P
It really is pretty worthless unless you're an avid developer. Most regular devs won't even need the Dev Phone unless they don't have a G1 already...

but doesn't this also unlock the phone from T-Mobile? so for people on other carriers modding to dev might be good right?

if dev is truly and completely unlocked it would make sense... Can anyone who has a locked G1 that has performed this update verify it for us? try it on another carrier to see if the dev flash unlocks the phone... Thanks

okay wait I'm still confused, will this make things from a regular storebought G1 unavailable to you? Also can manup456 or somebody please just confirm if this thing will work on att? And lastly this is probably my fault for not reading up but, what is a "rooted" G1?

I think people are asking about the unlock because I read on engadget that the dev phone was unlocked. Seems like this is just a firmware flash?
